Location
Atenas is located 50 km northwest of San Jose (an hour drive), a 30-minute drive from the Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela, an hour and a half from Poas Volcano, and an hour to the Pacific coast. It is on the main highway from San Jose to Jaco beach. Atenas is 45 minutes to Carara National Park. Its central location makes it an easy stop between travel destinations as a breather between more developed tourist destinations.
